Leeds United should make a move for Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg in the January transfer window.

Leeds United are going strong in the Championship at the moment and are in the running for a playoff spot.

The West Yorkshire outfit are currently sixth in the standings with 26 points from 16 matches.

Despite the Whites’ good form and performances so far this season, it is important that they reinforce their squad in the January transfer window.

According to a recent report in The Daily Star, Leeds are actively looking to strengthen.

It has not been reported in which area the Championship club are looking to add to, but one department that head coach Garry Monk should look at is in attack.

New Zealand international striker Chris Wood is in brilliant form at the moment and is scoring goals for fun.

Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson is talented, but he is still adapting to the Championship and has managed only one goal in 10 league appearances so far this season.

Souleymane Doukara and Kemar Roofe can play through the middle, but for Leeds to maintain their challenge for the top six in the second half of the season, they need a proven goalscorer.

Enter Will Grigg.

Grigg was superb for Wigan Athletic last season, scoring as many as 28 goals and playing a key role in their promotion back to the Championship.

The Northern Ireland international striker has not exactly been in great form so far this season, though.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals and created 20 chances in 14 Championship matches for Wigan so far this campaign.

However, there have been some positive signs, and Grigg would be a very good signing for Leeds in the January transfer window.

The striker would bring with him some experience of playing and scoring in the Championship.

Wood may be scoring goals at the moment, but he could have a dry spell sometime later in the season.

Leeds need to be prepared if that happens, and signing a good striker in Grigg would be a smart move from the former Premier League outfit.
