Leeds United should look to take advantage of the current uncertainty at Wolverhampton Wanderers and join the running for Andreas Weimann.
Weimann was expected to move to Wolves for £1.5 million, with a deal agreed (Express and Star).
However, Paul Lambert is now expected to leave Wolves in the coming days (Telegraph) – plunging that transfer into serious doubt.
Wolves and Lambert have disagreed over transfer policy, with the club’s board wanting to utilise the overseas market.
Weimann’s potential availability should now be seized on by Leeds, as he could be the exact player they have needed this season.
Leeds have failed to find competent cover for Chris Wood this term, and they have also struggled to settle upon a first-choice wing pairing.
The Whites have rotated their wide-men around, while none of their other strikers have shown any sign of being able to the net with the same rate of regularity of Wood.
Weimann, though, would be able to fulfil both roles adeptly, making him look like a potentially valuable addition for Garry Monk’s side.
The Austrian has been in excellent form since arriving at Wolves, with Lambert’s faith in him paying off.
Weimann seems to have got his confidence back, and he has netted two goals and claimed two assists in his last 11 appearances, despite generally playing out wide for Wolves.
For £1.5 million he is cheap in the current market, and if Leeds could sneak in ahead of Wolves, they may be able to complete a brilliant bargain signing.
