Southampton forward Charlie Austin would be a good signing for Leeds United in the January transfer window.

QPR's Charlie Austin has a shot during the Sky Bet Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Burnley at Loftus Road on December 12, 2015 in London, England.

Victor Orta is not a very popular figure among Leeds United fans. Orta was appointed the Leeds director of football in the summer and was responsible for making the signings.

Some Leeds fans want Orta gone from Elland Road, as reported by HITC Sport (click here to read more), as most of the new players have failed to play well consistently, and if results do not improve soon, then the supporters are only going to get more frustrated with him.

Orta, though, could make himself popular among the Leeds fans by signing Charlie Austin from Southampton in the January transfer window.

Leeds need to find a striker who will score goals regularly, and in Austin they would have a player who knows the Championship – and English football – inside out.

True, the 28-year-old has had injury problems during his time at Southampton so far and is not guaranteed a spot in the Saints’ starting lineup at the moment, but when he is fully fit and plays regularly, then he scores goals.

It would not be hard for Leeds to secure Austin’s services either. According to a report in The Daily Mail last week, the Saints are willing to listen to offers for the 28-year-old former Burnley and Queens Park Rangers forward.

Southampton paid QPR a transfer fee of £4 million in January 2016 in order to secure the services of Austin, as reported by The Guardian.

Signing Austin in January could help Leeds secure a top-six finish in the Championship this season.
