Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern would be a smart signing for Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

According to ITV, Michael McGovern can leave Norwich City, and Leeds United should make a move for the former Celtic prospect in the summer transfer window.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper has failed to establish himself as the first choice between the posts for Norwich, and it does not come as a surprise that the Canaries are open to selling him this summer.

McGovern is a very experienced goalkeeper and is a Northern Ireland international, and the former Hamilton Academical man would be a decent signing as a back-up to Bailey Peacock-Farrell next season.

With Felix Wiedwald making some high-profile mistakes and Andy Lonergan not doing well, Peacock-Farrell ended this past season as the first-choice Leeds goalkeeper.

While it is clear that at 21 Peacock-Farrell is the future, it would be smart of the Whites to have a fall-back option in case the youngster has a dip in form.

Wiedwald has made far too many mistakes to be considered reliable between the sticks, while Lonergan has looked shaky when he has stepped in for him – and it would not really be a shock if Leeds try to move both of them on this summer.

Peacock-Farrell and McGovern both are Northern Ireland internationals, and there would be healthy competition between the two at Elland Road.

Leeds actually wanted McGovern before he moved to Norwich. HITC Sport reported back in June 2016 that the West Yorkshire outfit were considering making a move for the Northern Ireland international goalkeeper following his heroics at the Euro 2016 finals.
