Aston Villa are among the five Championship clubs tracking Rangers goal-machine Alfredo Morelos – but where are Leeds United?

If reports are to be believed, Leeds United are still on the lookout for another striker in the January transfer window with The Sun (10th September, page 58) claiming that they are willing to pay £2 million for MLS star Cyle Larin, Orlando City’s all-time record goalscorer.
However, with The Scotsman reporting that five of Leeds’ Championship rivals sent scouts to watch deadly Rangers hitman Alfredo Morelos in action against Partick Thistle on Friday, you wonder whether Thomas Christiansen’s side should throw their hat into the ring.
The 21-year-old Colombian cost Rangers just £1 million when they signed him from HJK Helsinki in the summer and Morelos has taken his remarkable goalscoring record in Scandinavia over to Scotland. He has scored eight goals in nine appearances already, with team-mate Josh Windass tipping him to hit the 30-goal mark with ease (Scottish Sun).

And, true to form, Morelos found the net again in the 2-2 draw with Glasgow rivals Partick at Firhill while representatives from Aston Villa, Barnsley, Bristol City, Derby County and Reading all watched on.
Natural-born goalscorer
Leeds have gone about their business intelligently and efficiently since Victor Orta was appointed as director of football at the start of the summer, bringing in under-the-radar attacking talents like Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski on bargain deals. And Morelos would be the best of the lot, if his early form at Rangers is anything to go by.

Leeds brought in Pierre-Michel Lasogga on loan from Hamburg to replace Chris Wood and, while he has hit the ground running by scoring twice on his debut against Burton Albion, the German’s hefty wages mean a permanent stay at Elland Road may be unlikely.
And the only other senior centre-forward on Leeds’ books, Caleb Ekuban is currently sidelined with injury. Therefore, it would make sense for The Whites to see 21-year-old Morelos as a signing not only for now but the future too.
