Leeds United are on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Thomas Christiansen.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds United could appoint a new manager imminently. The Championship club are on the hunt for a new head coach following the departure of Thomas Christiansen, and they reportedly want to get a deal done soon.

While it remains to be seen who Leeds appoint as their new head coach, the club’s hierarchy would be wise to have Eddie Gray in their backroom staff in some capacity for the rest of the season.

Leeds manager Eddie Gray (2nd from R) shouts instructions during the FA Barclaycard Premiership match between Fulham and Leeds United at Loftus Road on March 13, 2004 in London.

Leeds fans do not need any introduction to Gray. One of the greatest players in the club’s history, the former Scotland international winger spent his entire professional club football career at the Whites; the 70-year-old also managed the first team in the 1980s and was a caretaker in 2003-04.

Gray now works for LUTV, and the Scotsman knows the current players inside out, and it is this knowledge the new manager should look to tap into.

Christiansen’s successor will have to hit the ground running, especially as Leeds are still very much in the race for the Championship playoffs.

Former Leeds player Eddie Gray waves to the fans during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Newport County and Leeds United at Rodney Parade on January 7, 2018 in Newport, Wales.

There will not be much time for him to get to know the players’ strengths and weaknesses, but Gray knows them all.

Moreover, Gray has managed Leeds before, and he will be fully aware of the expectations at the club.

If Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani wants the team to have the best possible chance to finish in the top six of the Championship, then he should convince Gray to be part of the new coaching staff until the end of the season.
