Celtic reportedly want to sign Steven Caulker from Queens Park Rangers, and Leeds United should join the race.

Celtic have been linked with a move for Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror claimed of the Bhoys’ interest in the 25-year-old centre-back last week, and now Get West London has reported that the former Tottenham Hotspur man looks increasingly likely to make the switch to the Glasgow giants.

“QPR are looking to offload the defender on a free transfer, possibly with a sell-on clause in the deal,” adds the report in West London Sport.

The report has also added that discussions between QPR and Celtic have taken place, and that there is now a growing expectation that the transfer will happen.

While all the signs are that Caulker will move to Celtic, a transfer is never complete until the paperwork has been completed, which means that Leeds United still have time to make a late offer.

Caulker may not be in QPR manager Ian Holloway’s plans and the London club appear only too happy to let him leave this summer, but the centre-back could be a valuable addition to the Whites’ team.

Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen recently told The Yorkshire Post that he wants to reinforce his defence, and securing the services of the Englishman would end his search.

The former Cardiff City defender knows the Championship well, and given that he is still only 25, there is plenty of time for improve his game and reach his peak.

If QPR are willing to let the centre-back go on a free, as reported by West London Sport, then it would be wise of Leeds to at least make an attempt to sign him despite Celtic also being interested in him.
