Mo Eisa is a target for Birmingham City and Middlesbrough after an excellent start for Cheltenham Town – but what about Leeds United?
In the final few hours of the January transfer window, Leeds United had a decision to make. Should they meet Grimsby Town’s asking price for Omar Bogle?
Fortunately, Leeds’ decision has been vindicated. The former non-league hitman scored just three times in 15 games for Wigan, failing to keep them in the division, and has played just five minutes of football since moving on to Cardiff City in the summer.
But with the Sunday People (8th October, page 49) claiming that Cheltenham Town phenomenon Mo Eisa is attracting Championship interest in the form of Middlesbrough and Birmingham City, should Leeds United join the race for another League Two striker?
Reinforcements at centre-forward could come in handy at Elland Road with Caleb Ekuban’s injury leaving Pierre-Michel Lasogga all alone in attack. And Eisa, who joined Cheltenham from Greenwich Borough in the summer and already has six goals in 12 League Two games, is the sort of young, under-the-radar talent that Leeds have targeted since director of football Victor Orta arrived.
Yet, Bogle’s failure to adapt to life in the Championship should perhaps act as a warning to clubs considering giving Eisa an opportunity in the second tier. Leeds, then, should take this into consideration if Eisa is on their radar.
Not every case is the same, however, and Eisa simply looks a natural-born goalscorer. Furthermore, Wigan weren’t exactly the best destination for a player making the first big move of his career, doomed to relegation as they were.
Leeds, though, are looking forward with one of the youngest and most promising squads in the Championship. Eisa could fit right in at a club who have developed a reputation for developing players.
