Leeds United should consider signing Tim Krul on loan.

Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen dropped Andy Lonergan and brought goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald back into his first XI for the 2-0 win at Barnsley on Saturday.

Dropped earlier in the season following a string of errors, the summer signing did little wrong at Oakwell but you’ll struggle to find a Leeds fan who’s completely trusting of their goalkeeping options.

One thing that has held United back, and will probably continue to do so, is the absence of a reliable figure between the sticks and a goalkeeper should be a top priority for Director of Football Victor Orta when the transfer window re-opens in January.

To achieve that, you wonder if the Whites should look into signing Tim Krul on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football this season and his latest appearance came in a Checkatrade Trophy win against Stevenage this month, playing for the U-21s.

No disrespect to that competition you but it wouldn’t be unthinkable to believe that maybe the Dutchman, who has played in a World Cup, might feel he’s better than that standard and Leeds should offer him a six-month stint of playing regularly in the Championship.

He is comfortably a better option than both Wiedwald and Lonergan and if Brighton decide they want him back next summer then at least Leeds have another three months in which to recruit a top-class keeper.

You get the feeling that the goalkeeping situation could well cost United a spot in the playoffs come May, and Krul, who has 157 Premier League appearances under his belt following his time at Newcastle, certainly has the experience and ability to prevent that from happening.
