The Manchester United star would be a fantastic signing for Leeds United this summer.

This summer’s transfer window will be a vitally important one for whoever is in charge at Elland Road, as the Whites look to go one step further next term and earn promotion to the Premier League.

One particular area of the Leeds squad which could require urgent attention is the goalkeeping department, with reports this morning suggesting that Marco Silvestri could be sold to Bologna, after the Serie A side enquired about the 26-year-old stopper, according to Italian media outlet il Resto del Carlino.

If the West Yorkshire outfit do in fact allow the former Chievo man to leave the club, they will need to sign another ‘keeper to compete with Rob Green.

With this in mind, they should consider joining Aston Villa and Sunderland in the race to sign Manchester United’s Sam Johnstone.

The 24-year-old ‘keeper spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, and impressed with he manner in which he displayed authority and a certain level of calmness, when commanding his penalty area.

Goalkeepers usually do not hit their prime until they reach 30, so Johnstone really could become a world beater, if he continues along the current path that his career has taken thus far.

Jose Mourinho appears to be willing to sanction his exit from Old Trafford this summer though, according to the Daily Mail, and a move to Elland Road could provide the young stopper with the perfect platform from which to express himself, and in turn, fulfil his true potential.

Despite the undoubted competition Leeds would face in the race to obtain Johnstone’s signature, the exciting direction that the West Yorkshire club are currently heading, combined with their massive support, could tempt him into joining the Whites ahead of the other clubs mentioned.
