Leeds United shouldn’t sign the Manchester United ace without an option to buy him outright next year.
According to ESPN, Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has agreed to join Championship side Leeds United on loan.
But Leeds should pull out of any potential deal for the 20-year-old unless there is an option to sign him permanently next summer.
Fans of the Yorkshire club would love to have Kyle Bartley in central defence ahead of their trip to Bolton Wanderers for the Championship opener on Sunday, after the Swansea City man enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Elland Road last season.
Unfortunately, there was no option to sign him on a permanent basis and the Whites are now hoping that Matthew Pennington – also on loan – proves himself a fitting replacement.
But with Andrea Radrizzani now at the helm, this is a new era at Elland Road, one that seems to have a long-term feel about it and signing Borthwick-Jackson, only to lose him next summer like Bartley, would contradict the image that the Italian is trying to convey.
For the first time in a while, Leeds are looking at the bigger picture, evident by the fact that new signing Ouasim Bouy was immediately loaned to Cultural Leonesa, in addition to a plethora of Under-23 talents coming into the club.
And there’s simply no point in bringing in the Manchester United man if by next summer fans will be pining, in vain, for his return, just like they are with Bartley.
