Nedum Onuoha says it’s going to be ‘awkward’ for Weston McKennie following the sacking of Jesse Marsch by Leeds United, as he told US-based channel ESPN.

The USMNT international was persuaded by his countryman to join Leeds during the January transfer window on a loan deal from Juventus.

But, after a substitute appearance during his side’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Marsch is already out of the door before McKennie could even start a game under him.

McKennie wasn’t the only player brought in during the winter transfer window, with Georginio Rutter joining as a club-record signing from Hoffenheim.

From that perspective, and that perspective alone, some would question why Marsch was backed so much last month, only to be booted out one week later.

Nonetheless, when Onuoha was asked about how McKennie would be feeling about Leeds’ call to get rid of Marsch, whilst he acknowledged the midfielder won’t be upbeat, he thinks that’s how the game roles and it’s time to move on.

“It would be a bit awkward,” said Onuoha. “I have to be honest, it would be a bit awkward, especially if you are selling me a long-term vision.

“But, at the end of the day, this is football, isn’t it?! You can’t expect everything to stay the same just because you want it to be.

“He would have gone into the situation knowing that the pressure was on, so I just guess you are going to have to enjoy Leeds and enjoy Yorkshire, and the battle that is going to be the last 17 games of the season.”

NO TIME TO DWELL…MANCHESTER UNITED DOUBLE-HEADER

Marsch is out of the door and the Leeds players have no time to dwell because it’s the small matter of having to take on their old rivals Manchester United, both home and away, this week.

At first, it’s their game in hand at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, before they lock horns on Sunday at Elland Road, where the new manager might be in the dugout.

There could be every chance that McKennie earns his first start, in truth, he will probably start both games, as Leeds know full well that two defeats could result in them dropping into the relegation zone.
