Leeds United have beaten Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers and Liverpool to the signature of Charlie Allen, according to The Belfast Telegraph.

Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all wanted to sign forward Allen from Linfield in the summer transfer window, according to the report.

However, it has been claimed, the 16-year-old has decided to move to Leeds, who are aiming to clinch automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the season, which is suspended at the momet due to the global health crisis.

One for the future

Allen, who can operate in midfield or as a forward, is a very good and promising young player who is one for the future.

Leeds have a very good youth academy and have produced some wonderful players over the years.

The Northern Irish teenager will progress and develop well at the Whites, who have done well to reportedly beat the likes of Rangers, Tottenham and Liverpool to his signature.

Huge praise

Former Ipswich Town and Northern Ireland international midfielder Jim Magilton is the elite performance director for the Irish Football Association, and he rates Allen highly.

Magilton recently told The Yorkshire Evening Post about Allen: “Technically very good and physically can handle it – he is quick enough and he has a real chance. Great attitude, enthusiastic, and applies himself every day.”
