Talented Leeds under-23 ace signs with Getafe.

Leeds United’s decision to release Hugo Diaz last month came as a surprise.
Diaz was a standout performer for the under-23s, playing in a Kalvin Phillips type role and captaining the team.
A path to the first team seemed likely for the former Deportivo trainee. Marcelo Bielsa felt otherwise.
From a sporting perspective, perhaps there was no route for Diaz to go straight into Leeds starting XI.
But from a financial point of view, Leeds’ decision looks even more odd after he joined Getafe on a free.
Getafe finished in fifth place last season, qualifying for the Europa League.
If they deem Diaz, 22, good enough to bring into their squad, why not Leeds?
This raises the question to as to why Leeds did not extend Diaz’s contract, and try to sell him?
With a top flight side willing to sign Diaz up, surely Leeds could have fetched a fee?

Perhaps Leeds did the fairest thing for the player, but that doesn’t mean it was the smartest decision by the club.
Leeds might one day be able to boast of developing Diaz if he becomes a La Liga star.
That will count for very little though in real terms, and only make them look silly for giving him away for free.
