Leeds United are said to be interested in signing Marvin Bakalorz from Hamburg.

According to Fussball Transfers in Germany, Leeds United are interested in signing Marvin Bakalorz from Hannover, but he is exactly the kind of signing that the Whites don’t need.

Bakalorz may have a decent pedigree in German football, but he is not a player that Leeds need.

Bakalorz is a defensive midfielder, which is arguably the position where Leeds are best stocked in already.

The Whites have Eunan O’Kane, Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira and Adam Forshaw competing for a spot in midfield, while Mateusz Klich is also out on loan.

It will be crucial that Leeds do not block the progress of the likes of Vieira and Phillips by putting too many obstacles in their way, and it is hard to see what else Bakalorz offers.

He is 28, has no experience of English football, and would simply be another middling player to add to a squad that needs a real injection of quality.

And if Victor Orta wants to avoid criticism this summer, he needs to show far more invention than to target yet another defensive midfielder from abroad.
