Leeds United pulled off a superb comeback to claim a 2-2 draw at home to Bristol City on Sunday evening, having been 2-0 down at Elland Road.
After losing 2-1 at Sheffield United last weekend in Paul Heckingbottom’s first game as Leeds manager, the Whites hoped for better against Lee Johnson’s Bristol City – but they made a disastrous start.
Felix Wiedwald flapped at a Hordur Magnusson long throw-in, giving Famara Diedhiou the chance to score from close range, before Bobby Reid also converted from another Magnusson throw-in to give Bristol City a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes.
Leeds looked to be down and out, but they produced a superb comeback in the second half, with Pierre-Michel Lasogga volleying home Pablo Hernandez’s cross to bring the Whites back into the game.
Kemar Roofe then scored from Hernandez’s corner to make it 2-2, and Lasogga hit the bar with virtually the last action of the game as Leeds actually ended up disappointed they didn’t win.
After the game, Leeds players took to Twitter in order to send messages to fans, with goalscorers Lasogga and Roofe both celebrating finding the net against the Robins.
Goalkeepers Andy Lonergan and Bailey Peacock-Farrell both commented on a remarkable fightback at Elland Road, whilst defender Liam Cooper added that it was ‘unbelievable’ to see Leeds produce that comeback in front of a superb crowd.
