Leeds United winger Ezgjan Alioski has explained to the club’s official website why he applauded the ‘crowdies’ at the end of the match against Fulham at the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side got the better of Fulham 3-0 at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Alioski, who can also operate as a left-back, scored the Whites’ second goal in the 56th minute after coming on as a substitute at the start of the second half.

After the match, the 28-year-old North Macedonia international applauded the ‘cardboard cutouts’ of some Leeds fans inside the stadium.

The former Lugano star also celebrated his goal as if the fans were physically present at the ground, and he has explained his actions.

Alioski told Leeds’s official website: “We are Leeds, we played at home and we missed the fans to push us and we needed to find our motivation by ourselves and we did it.

“It’s nice to see the pictures and of course when you score you want to celebrate with the fans, especially at Elland Road and I tried.

“Maybe they saw me on TV, I’m going to remember them in the stadium and always celebrate with them like they are here.”
