Paul Merson has blasted Leeds United’s decision to sack Jesse Marsch as an ‘absolute joke’ as they struggle to replace him.
The Whites decided to axe Marsch last Monday after a difficult run of form.
Marsch claimed just three points in his final seven Premier League games and managed just two league wins after the end of August.
The American was adamant that he could turn positive performances into results but Leeds managed just four goals in their last six games under Marsch.
Reports from the Daily Mail suggested that Victor Orta actually wanted to keep Marsch only for other decision-makers to decide the time was right for a change.
Leeds have yet to find a replacement though.
A number of candidates have decided they don’t want to change clubs in the middle of the season, leaving Leeds in limbo.
Michael Skubala is in interim charge and looks set to remain in that job for the foreseeable future.

Paul Merson slams Leeds United for sacking Jesse Marsch
Leeds have at least avoided what would have been an incredible turn of events.
Southampton had picked out Marsch as the man they wanted to replace Nathan Jones having sacked the Welshman on Sunday.
A deal looked to be close but, sadly for Marsch, the move has collapsed today and the American seemingly won’t make a swift Premier League return.
Marsch managing to find himself a new Premier League job before Leeds have found a replacement would be quite astonishing.
Paul Merson has now offered his view on Marsch, speaking to Sky Sports before it emerged that Marsch’s move to Southampton had broken down.
Merson believes that Marsch was ‘bang unlucky’ to lose his job at Leeds in the first place.
Merson added that Leeds sacking Marsch and not finding a replacement is an ‘absolute joke’ whilst fearing that Leeds won’t score many goals in their battle against the drop.
“I thought he was bang unlucky to get the sack at Leeds if I’m being honest,” said Merson. “I thought they need a little bit of luck here and there, I watched them again against Manchester United… they’re not going to score any goals.”
“I do like Jesse Marsch and I thought he was bang unlucky to get the sack, and to sack him and then get nobody in… it’s an absolute joke in my opinion,” he added.
