Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has got plenty wrong during his time at Elland Road… but he may have been correct about Charlie Taylor.

Massimo Cellino’s comments to the Daily Mirror about Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor last season, may just have turned out to be true.
Cellino came under fire from Leeds fans back in 2016, when describing the difficulties of getting Taylor to sign a new contract at Elland Road.
The left-back would not commit to new terms, and much of the blame was pointed towards the Italian owner at the time for not getting the youngster to sign a fresh deal.

“I’m very disappointed with the way he has acted,” Cellino said a year ago. “We are not going to let him go. Trust me!
“For almost one year, I’ve been trying to get him to sign a new contract.”
Leeds did indeed keep hold of Taylor for another year, with the 23-year-old now set to leave on a free transfer.
And the defender’s recent actions may have just vindicated Cellino’s words.

Taylor refused to play for Leeds in their final game of the season against Wigan Athletic, which has soured the youngster’s relationship with the Elland Road crowd.
Garry Monk suggested that Taylor had been poorly advised, and Cellino even predicted that there could be trouble with the left-back.
“Charlie is going to be a problem, I think his agent is the same as Sam [Byram],” he added to the Yorkshire Evening Post. “Taylor doesn’t return the call.”
Taylor is now likely to move to West Bromwich Albion this summer (Daily Mirror), with Leeds only set to receive a compensation fee for the youngster.
