The midfielder was loaned out after falling out of favour under Garry Monk.
Burton Albion’s Luke Murphy applauds fans after the game
In the summer, Leeds United made several moves in the transfer market to bolster their central midfield options.
The likes of Liam Bridcutt and Eunan O’Kane arrived whilst Ronaldo Vieira was promoted to the first-team permanently.
The fall-out saw Luke Murphy, along with Toumani Diagouraga, lose their place in the first-team set-up.
Throughout his time out of the team Murphy has conducted himself in exemplary fashion. He has continued to try his best for the Leeds under-23s and never moaned about his troubles at the club.
In January he was sent out on loan to Burton Albion and is in good form at the Pirelli Stadium.
He has been thriving in a deeper midfield role at Burton and is clearly enjoying himself. He told the Burton Mail this week:
“I am finding it hard to get as far forward as I used to but that is the job I am doing and I’m enjoying it.
“Whatever I am asked to do to help the team, that’s fine. I definitely (enjoy it) – as long as we win.”
Leeds’ Luke Murphy and Brighton’s James Wilson
Even if Leeds do not win promotion back to the Premier League the likelihood is that Murphy is surplus to requirements at Elland Road.
However, with his good form in his loan club’s relegation fight and by adding another string to his bow, Leeds should have no trouble at all finding a buyer for the midfield dynamo.
