Former Leeds United striker reacts to result.

Leeds United moved up to third in the Championship table after a comfortable home win over Nottingham Forest.

Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan was impressed with the result, with two second half strikes sealing a 2-0 win for the Whites, thanks to Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara getting on the scoresheet.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: “Last season it wasn’t a good bunch of players, too much going on off the field, now we have got a team, there is a togetherness, you can see the smiles.

“They have character to bounce back. It was dominant enough. On the ball was quality but the way they worked, intensity, desire, honestly I love to see that side of football, that’s what makes teams great.”

Chris Wood opened the scoring early in the second half, netting his 20th goal of the season, and his sixth in the last four games.

The match was notable from Leeds’ perspective as it was Pontus Jansson’s 22nd game for the club, which should allow the Whites to trigger a clause to sign the star defender on a permanent basis.

Forest lacked a goal threat all evening, and brought on Danish international Nicklas Bendtner for the final 20 minutes in an attempt to change their fortunes.

He was outshone by substitute Souleymane Doukara, who had been dropped for the fixture and brought on during the second half.

The unpredictable attacker scored what was surely his best ever goal for the Whites, volleying home to put his side 2-0 up.

Forest remain 19th in the Championship table after the loss, their first under caretaker boss Gary Brazil.
