Leeds United recently caught the eye with the signature of Swedish international Pontus Jansson. The Torino centre-back has signed on a season-long loan deal – which could potentially become permanent in the summer.

Jansson recently made his debut for Leeds, featuring against Luton Town in the EFL Cup.

It came after a rough spell at Torino where first-team football was hard to come by, so he is hoping to feature in Leeds’ next game.

Leeds take on Nottingham Forest in the Championship this weekend and Jansson is clearly hoping he has proven himself ready to play.

He told Sydsvenskan this week:

“It went well, (it’s) nice to be back. The first proper game since the league ended last spring. Nice get a match in the legs. Luton is at the top of League Two and knocked out Aston Villa in the last round. The fight was like animals, typically British.

“The first real game in almost three months, feels so good. Tired but all ok! Nice victory and fantastic support.

“I have no idea if I get to play, but they were happy yesterday and the body feels good.”

He is also clearly thriving the physical aspect of the English game, something he should be able to handle given his sizeable stature.

Leeds boss Garry Monk now has a selection dilemma at the back. Sol Bamba, the club captain, has been in mixed form for some time. Kyle Bartley is also at the club, on loan from Swansea City whilst Liam Cooper is now back in regular contention.

Monk will soon have to decide who his two starters are. Jansson will be hoping he is one of them.
