Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been reportedly attracting interest from Premier League side Aston Villa this summer.

Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips continues to be touted for a move to Aston Villa, and it seems as though the Premier League side are not backing down as they aim to secure his signature.

The Sun have previously stated that Leeds want £30 million for the services of their player, which is frustrating Aston Villa, who are looking to hold out on a deal around the region of £15 million.

Simply put, Leeds have to make a decision on Phillips’ future, as soon as possible because the Yorkshire club will harm themselves if they allow the saga to drag on.

If Phillps is going to stay at Leeds then no-one within the club is to worry. But if he is to leave then they are better selling him before pre-season properly kicks in, rather than days before the new Championship season starts.

The simple reason being that the Championship promotion hopefuls will need a replacement for the defensive-minded midfielder, and given that the player will be playing under Marcelo Bielsa, he’ll need time to settle in.

It is obvious to one and all that Bielsa is the most demanding coach in the second tier of English football. And as the Leeds players saw to their benefit, and towards the back end their downfall, his system is brutal.

Added with that, there aren’t any obvious names that can fill that role, at this moment in time. Plus, it is a very important role within the team, so a specialist will be needed, as soon as possible.

As Phillips proved last season, if he can get it right in that area of the pitch and produce the goods, then it bodes well for the rest of the team and their chances of winning.

Of course, the Elland Road faithful will want to keep Phillips at the club, but it could become problematic and potentially catastrophic for them if Villa do take the risk and put the money on the table just weeks before the Championship season begins.
