The Championship side’s fortunes have been completely revitalised since the former Swansea City man arrived at Elland Road.

While Leeds United boss Garry Monk is taking a very calm approach to his contract situation at Elland Road, as reported by the Yorkshire Post, the Whites would be wise to tie him down sooner rather than later.

Monk has done a remarkable job at Leeds, turning a side who finished 13th last season into one who now sits in fourth position, eight points clear of seventh placed Fulham.

The decision by the Leeds hierarchy to give Monk the job was a gamble given the end of the 37-year-old’s managerial tenure at the Liberty Stadium, as Swansea had gone on a run of one win in 11 and looked completely clueless.

However, it’s definitely paid off, and Leeds have a genuine chance of getting back into the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated from the top flight in 2004.

As a result, Monk’s stock has significantly risen, with his Swansea spell now being put down to inexperience or a steep learning curve for the young manager.

While Leeds were correct in offering him a 12 month contract, with an option of an additional year, now’s the time to give him a much larger and a more stable deal.
