Leeds United will be looking to go back to the top of the Championship table on Wednesday night.
Ahead of Brentford’s visit to Leeds United on Wednesday night, a lot of the talk, understandably will be about Pontus Jansson’s return.
The once-popular Elland Road defender left Leeds in pretty surprising circumstances this summer and this is the first time he will come up against his former club.
But whilst the focus will be on Jansson when looking at the Brentford team, Leeds need to be wary of the Bees’ highly-rated winger Said Benrahma.
Over the summer, the 24-year-old was tipped for a move to the Premier League, with his former boss, Dean Smith keen to bring the £20 million rated attacker to Aston Villa, as reported by the Express & Star.
Whilst all that talk was happening during the build-up to the new Championship season, Benrahma was trying to recover from injury, and over the weekend, he returned to action from the bench.
It remains to be seen whether Bees boss Thomas Frank will select Benrahma from the start at Elland Road, but if he does, then Leeds’ defence will face arguably their toughest test yet.
Last season, Benrahma played 38 Championship games, scoring 10 goals and supplying his teammates with 15 assists [transfermarkt].
Many are going to back the Algerian to showcase that form again this season, but Leeds supporters will be hoping it doesn’t happen at their expense.
From a positive standpoint, if Leeds can keep Brentford’s frontline, including Benrahma quiet then it will give them huge confidence going forward.
