Leeds United target and Everton man Matthew Pennington could join another club this week.

The print edition of The Sunday Mirror claimed last week that Leeds United were interested in signing Everton defender Matthew Pennington.

But Leeds need to step up their interest and fast if they want to sign the 22-year-old.

This is because The Hull Daily Mail reported on Monday morning that Hull City could sign the Everton starlet on loan this week.

And if the Whites are serious about signing Pennington then head coach Thomas Christiansen and Director of Football Victor Orta need to show it.

The Yorkshire club are still in the market for a centre-back, with Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper their only recognised options in that role.

Giuseppe Bellusci is heavily expected to leave Elland Road, while Kyle Bartley, who was brilliant on loan for Leeds last season, does not look like he’ll be returning.

If Pennington does not arrive then perhaps United have focused their attention on Bristol City’s Aden Flint, who made Leeds fans excited at the weekend by ‘liking’ a tweet which suggested he join up with Christiansen and co this summer.

They kick off their Championship campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Bolton Wanderers on August 6.
