Liam Cooper’s injury against Sheffield United at the weekend puts even more pressure on their stretched defensive options.

Aapo Halme has impressed in his promotion from Leeds’ under-23 squad, and the Whites must consider another youngster to help them out.

Loanee Paudie O’Connor is currently out on loan at Blackpool, and he is being wasted.

O’Connor has not played a league game for Blackpool since August.

Leeds are in need of centre-backs, and it makes little sense to have the 21-year-old warming another team’s bench. On some occasions he has failed to even make the matchday squad.

Of course, there are question marks over why O’Connor could benefit Leeds, if he can’t get into a Blackpool team which is one division below.

This is unfair on O’Connor, who impressed for Leeds at the end of last season alongside Pontus Jansson.

The Irishman starred also in Blackpool’s Carabao Cup game against Arsenal, scoring before being harshly sent off for a second booking.

Even if he slots in behind Halme in the pecking order at Leeds, O’Connor is an upgrade on the next player up, and Leeds must strongly consider a recall.
