Leeds United’s hopes of signing Kyle Bartley would have been immediately over.

Garry Monk, manager of Middlesbrough looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Middlesbrough at The Den on December 16, 2017 in London, England.

Garry Monk’s spell at Middlesbrough ended in disaster, with the manager fired after just a matter of months on Teesside.

Monk is however was tipped to land on his feet, with SkyBet making him 5/1 second favourite to land the Swansea City jobbefore Carlos Carvalhal was appointed by the Swans this morning.

Monk previously managed Swansea and led them to an eighth placed Premier League finish in 2015, before being sacked the following season.

If he had made a return to the Liberty Stadium, Monk’s appointment could come as a bitter blow to fans of his former club Leeds United.

After Paul Clement was fired by Swansea earlier this month, Leeds fans took to Twitter to express their hopes they could finally sign Kyle Bartley.

Kyle Bartley (c) of Leeds United celebrates his teams win during the EFL Cup Fourth Round match between Leeds United and Norwich City at Elland Road on October 25, 2016 in Leeds, England.

After a successful loan spell last season, Leeds wanted to bring Bartley back, only to be blocked by Clement.

A new manager could have fresh ideas, but if that new boss had turned out to be Garry Monk, Leeds’ chances of signing him would have been over immediately.

It was Monk who signed Bartley on loan at Leeds last season and helped him flourish, and Bartley was keen on being reunited with him once again.

Under Carvalhal, Bartley’s future remains unclear, and if the Portuguese manager wants to bring his own players in, Bartley could well end up requiring a move.
