Sunderland have been interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The Black Cats have been chasing Lonergan from Leeds this month, as Chris Coleman wants to upgrade his goalkeeping options.

Leeds have a reluctance to use Bailey Peacock-Farrell as their first reserve, but Martinez’s arrival could now make Lonergan available, which has to be seen as good news for Sunderland.
Coleman’s side have struggled for goalkeeping options this term, with Robbin Ruiter and Jason Steele both proving to be very shaky in net.

Ruiter and Steele both appear to be lacking in confidence, and there is a hope that Lonergan would offer a more reliable option for Sunderland.
Martinez, meanwhile, is likely to come in as first-choice at Leeds and replace Felix Wiedwald in goal.
