Leeds United reportedly want the Manchester United midfielder on loan.
According to a report from the Sun, Leeds United are interested in bringing Scott McTominay to Elland Road on loan in January, but could a recent move for another Manchester United youngster scupper the deal from the outset?
After all, Leeds brought Cameron Borthwick-Jackson in on a temporary contract last summer, with a new left-back high on the club’s wish list.
Yet despite his innate talent Borthwick-Jackson has struggled for game time in Yorkshire, managing only five appearances for Leeds to date and only one in the league.
A few matches in the EFL Cup are not enough for a player who could have got that at Old Trafford, and Manchester United may be reluctant to do another deal with Leeds so soon, especially given the midfield options already available yo Thomas Christiansen’s side.
While McTominay is considerably more talented than Borthwick-Jackson and is tipped to go all the way, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will not want to send him to a club that has the likes of Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips excelling in the centre.
If he did, there would be a risk that McTominay would follow in the footsteps of his young defensive teammate, and that would help nobody.
Even if Leeds are planning to use the 21-year-old regularly, and they would be foolish not to given his ability and his potential, they may struggle to convince Mourinho that it would be second-time lucky for a loan move between the two clubs this season.
