Leeds United defender Maximilian Wober has been impressed with the early signs from new signing Georginio Rutter in training.

Wober has told Leeds Live that he thinks Rutter is more of a reserved character than fellow January signing Weston McKennie.

Wober feels Rutter is ‘more calm’ than the American and has had some struggles with the English language so far.

Yet the Austrian defender also believes that Rutter is a ‘fantastic talent’ and he is showing that every day in training.

“He’s probably not the same as Wes with coming to the dressing room every day, joking around, singing in front of everybody,” said Wober. “Georginio is more calm. He’s also probably had more difficulties with the language, but he’s also a fantastic guy and everybody in the group tries to help him to become at his best as soon as possible. You can see every day in training he is a fantastic talent,” he added.

Rutter is yet to start a league game for Leeds and came on for 15 minutes in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Southampton, making a positive impact off the bench.

Leeds United need to be patient with Georginio Rutter – but do they have time?

Leeds spent big on Rutter – very, very big.

The Whites broke their transfer record to sign Rutter in a huge £35.5million deal from Hoffenheim in January.

The 20-year-old had shown some promise in France but the numbers were fairly inconsistent.

Rutter managed just two goals and two assists this season but rack up eight goals and five assists last term.

You can see why Leeds saw major potential in Rutter but he is clearly a signing that will need a little bit of time and patience.

Rutter is a little raw and needs to be developed, with his suitability for a relegation battle already being questioned.

Wober and McKennie aren’t exactly veterans but they are experienced at club and international level, so both players making an instant impact isn’t a huge surprise.

Rutter is at a different stage in his development and will certainly need a period of adjustment in the Premier League.

The problem is that Leeds needs goals and results right now in their battle against relegation.

Rutter clearly has bags of talent but just how big of a role he can play for Leeds right now is unclear, which isn’t ideal after a major cash outlay.
