Leeds United are set to sign Maximilian Wober after Red Bull Salzburg recalled left back Daouda Guindo to seemingly replace him.

Salzburg confirmed on Sunday that left back Guindo has had his loan spell at St Gallen cancelled with immediate effect.

Guindo, 20, has been playing regularly for St Gallen in Switzerland, bagging four assists and one goal in 17 appearances.

Malian talent Guindo is now heading back to Austria and that seems to be a real indication that Wober is on his way out.

Leeds target Wober is Salzburg’s first-choice left back, playing 16 of his 19 games there this season, with the other three at centre back.

The Whites have been chasing Wober over the last week or so and it looks like Jesse Marsch is going to land his man.

Wober edging closer to Leeds move

Salzburger Nachrichten report that Wober is now ready for a ‘new challenge’ having spoken to Leeds boss Marsch in recent days.

Salzburg are seemingly aware that Wober has decided to leave and that’s why Guindo is being hauled back to Austria as his replacement.

There were even claims from Salzburger Nachrichten a few days ago which suggested that Wober had already completed his Leeds medical.

Wober, 24, emerged with Rapid Wien before joining Ajax back in 2017, playing under now-Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

After a strange move to Sevilla in 2019, Wober returned to Austria with Salzburg and has now racked up 125 appearances for the club.

Wober, who has earned 13 caps for Austria, has won three league titles for Salzburg in a superb spell with the club.

Wober played regularly under Marsch during their time together at Salzburg and he now looks set to become the latest player to reunite with the Leeds boss after Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

Whilst capable of playing as a centre back, we’re expecting Wober to be a left back for Leeds after Junior Firpo’s struggles in that position.
