Leeds United were happy for midfielder Mateusz Bogusz to join Los Angeles FC – but loan club Ibiza blocked the move.

That’s according to Periodico de Ibiza, who claim that Bogusz wanted to leave for Major League Soccer with LAFC before the deadline.

Leeds allegedly accepted an offer for Bogusz, which seemingly would have been a permanent move rather than just a loan deal.

Yet for Bogusz to be allowed to make the move, all parties needed to accept his loan move at Ibiza being scrapped.

Ibiza refused, feeling that Bogusz would play a key role for them between now and the end of the season.

Add in that Ibiza felt they couldn’t find a suitable replacement and Bogusz had his dream move to LA blocked on deadline day.

Mateusz Bogusz could have followed Mateusz Klich form Leeds to USA

It’s perhaps a little hard to feel sorry for somebody torn between Ibiza and Los Angeles but Bogusz isn’t in an easy situation.

Bogusz, 21, probably feels that he needs to settle down at this stage in his career.

Leeds raided Ruch Chorzów to sign Bogusz in 2019, believing they had found a potential star of the future.

Bogusz has spent most of his time out on loan though, heading to UD Logrones before heading to Ibiza in 2021.

A one-year loan deal turned into two years and Bogusz has now played 40 times for Ibiza, notching five goals and seven assists.

Given that he has now registered just three first-team appearances for Leeds as he heads towards 22, Bogusz may feel he can play regularly elsewhere.

An attack-minded midfielder, Bogusz could have actually followed his compatriot Mateusz Klich to the United States.

Polish ace Klich left Leeds for DC United in January and Bogusz was so close to making a similar move to LAFC.

Bogusz’s future is now up in the air until the summer, but a long-term future with Leeds is starting to look unlikely.
