Leeds United are expecting to tie up the bargain signature of Espanyol youngster Mateo Joseph Fernandez despite lofty interest.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Leeds are expected to secure Fernandez very soon.
It’s claimed that Manchester City and Barcelona want to sign Fernandez, but he’s believed to be Leeds-bound instead.
The fee is a bargain too – Leeds are expected to pay just £420,000 to sign Fernandez.
That’s cheaper than some forgettable Leeds signings over the years, such as Yosuke Ideguchi.
Leeds’ youth recruitment continues with Fernandez move
You don’t win anything with kids according to that famous Alan Hansen line, but Victor Orta loves his youth recruitment.
Ever since Orta arrived at Leeds in 2017, the Whites have placed a strong emphasis on youth recruitment.

Look at Leeds’ Under-23 side; the likes of Leo Hjelde, Lewis Bate, Sam Greenwood, Crysencio Summerville.
They have all arrived from big clubs in Celtic, Chelsea, Arsenal and Feyenoord respectively.
First-team ace Pascal Struijk started at Ajax before joining the Leeds development system.
There are also high hopes for Joe Gelhardt, Cody Drameh, Charlie Allen and Amari Miller.
It may take a while for Leeds fans to see the best of these players, but adding 18-year-old Fernandez – an exciting young striker – shows that Orta will carry on with this philosophy.
