Leeds United are chasing a deal for Espanyol talent Mateo Joseph Fernandez Regatillo – and it could cost around £850,000.
That’s according to La Grada, who claim that Fernandez hasn’t signed a new deal yet due to his high wage demands for Espanyol.
Fernandez is out of contract at the end of the season and can be signed for €1million (£850,000) thanks to a release clause in his deal.
Leeds are chasing a deal, but it’s stated that there is no agreement in place just yet, even if Leeds are favourites for Fernandez.
Victor Orta may have uncovered a gem here, with the 17-year-old attacker thought to be a great prospect for the future.
Fernandez was born in Spain but can also play for England, with some his family hailing from the UK – and a move to England could be appealing.
Leeds could now pip Manchester City and Barcelona to Fernandez
Fernandez has been linked with other clubs than Leeds – and two sides stand out.
La Grada’s report claims that Barcelona asked about signing Fernandez over the summer. They’re no stranger to raiding Espanyol for young talent, but they didn’t land Fernandez.
The Sun claimed in May that Manchester City were leading the race to sign Fernandez.
It now looks like Leeds are going to swoop in for Fernandez, landing a major coup in the process.
