Leeds United look set to replace Marcelo Bielsa with Jesse Marsch – a manager who has earned major praise from Jurgen Klopp.
Leeds were hammered again on Saturday afternoon, losing 4-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
That’s 14 goals conceded in a week having lost 4-2 to Manchester United and 6-0 to Liverpool.
Those are three tough games, but Leeds have still taken just one point from a possible 18.
Leeds are just two points clear of the relegation zone now, but Burnley and Everton both have two games in hand on the Whites.
Leeds have now made their big decision, confirming the departure of boss Bielsa in an emotional move.
Fabrizio Romano claims that a deal to bring in Jesse Marsch is now in the ‘final stages’, with the American set for a return to management.
Marsch has been out of work since December having been sacked by RB Leipzig in December. Marsch lasted just five months in charge there, winning eight games in 21.
Marsch impressed in charge of Red Bull Salzburg though, not only winning two league titles but also shining in the Champions League.
In 2019, Marsch’s Salzburg side went up against Liverpool and ran them close, especially in a 4-3 thriller at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp was seemingly blown away by Marsch and Salzburg, claiming he has ‘massive respect’ for the American coach.
Klopp called Marsch’s side ‘unbelievably strong’, praising their style of play and for taking the game to Liverpool when many would have been more conservative.
Marsch’s style has its parallels with Klopp, so it’s maybe not a huge surprise that the Liverpool boss is a fan.
The pair could face off again next season, but will ultimately require Leeds to stay in the Premier League under Marsch.
