It has been reported that Leeds United are interested in a summer transfer for Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguayan defensive midfielder has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who reportedly spoke to the player’s agent recently.

But it seems as if Leeds United themselves are keen on a transfer for Manuel Ugarte, branded as ‘Palhinha 2.0’ by Football Fan Cast, who has been targeted by a number of top clubs in Europe.

Leeds plotting Ugarte summer transfer

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most naturally talented young No.6’s in world football, known for his incredible engine, crunching tackles and adeptness with the ball at his feet.

The youngster really and truly is the complete package and could even end up emerging as an upgrade to Tyler Adams with how high his ceiling is.

Now, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have claimed that Leeds United are preparing a ‘possible attack’ to complete a transfer for Manuel Ugarte in the summer.

However, Javi Gracia’s side are not short of competitors in this race, with the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Wolves also believed to be keen, as well as AC Milan and Roma.

It has also been mentioned that for any club to sign the highly-rated prospect, they will have to fork out a £53 million fee towards his release clause to get the deal over the line.

Unlikely that Ugarte says yes to the move

While Leeds find themselves in a relegation scrap, some of the potential suitors find themselves in a top four battle, which makes it a no-contest in a transfer battle for the services of Manuel Ugarte.

On the topic of a relegation battle, one wonders if Leeds are even taking a peek at summer targets when it remains uncertain whether they will even play in the Premier League next season.

Regardless, it looks highly unlikely that Ugarte would leave a side in the Europa League quarter-finals to join a club that may survive in their domestic league by the skin of their teeth.
