Leeds take on Middlesbrough this weekend.
Patrick Bamford came off the bench at the weekend to score a consolation in Leeds’ defeat.
He has put himself into consideration for a starting role for Leeds against his former side Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Leeds paid a lot of money to sign Bamford, spending £7 million. This made him the Whites’ most expensive signing in nearly 17 years.
Now is the ideal time for him to start repaying it.
Bamford’s start to the season was wrecked by a knee injury and fitness issues have plagued him since his return in December.
He has scored twice, one of which was a winning goal against Bolton in mid-December. Saturday against Norwich was his first appearance since, and he marked it by getting on the scoresheet.
His recent impact is promising, and it is staggering that he has not been able to make a single league start since he signed.
Part of this is the form of Leeds’ top scorer Kemar Roofe, who has 14 goals. Crucially, none have come in his last three games.
Leeds needs Bamford to step up more than ever. Doing so against his former club would be ideal.
