The Whites captain has previously come under criticism by some of the Championship club’s fans.

Ahead of Leeds United’s Championship trip to Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, defender Luke Ayling has spoken highly of teammate and club captain Liam Cooper.
The Whites skipper has been a consistent starter when fit, making 27 Championship appearances this term and contributing to four goals (three scored, one assist), according to Transfermarkt.
Cooper has found himself criticised by some of the Leeds fanbase at times, one such example being after the 4-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion last year, but on the whole he has turned his form round.
Ayling was eager to bring attention to his teammate’s form and, speaking to LUTV, spoke of how he thought that the fans are now finally starting to see just how crucial he is for the team.

“He’s been our captain and been a rock at the back,” the right-back said ahead of the crucial game at Ashton Gate. “I think now players and fans are starting to see what a big player he is for us.”
Cooper has been at Elland Road since 2014, when he joined the club in a reported £500,000 move from Chesterfield, according to The Express.
The ex-Scotland Under-21 defender has made 149 appearances for Leeds over the years, scoring six goals and registering five assists, according to Transfermarkt.
