Luis Sinisterra was sent off for Leeds United on Sunday and Patrick Bamford has admitted that it’s ‘weird’ to see him so despondent in the dressing room.

Leeds returned to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon as they hosted Aston Villa at Elland Road.

After almost a month – yes, a month – without a Premier League game, Leeds fans will have been buzzing to be back.

The game itself proved to be more attritional than entertaining and Leeds really had to dig in for a 0-0 draw after Sinisterra’s silly red card.

Luis Sinisterra was sent off for Leeds

Colombian winger Sinisterra came into this game with high expectations having scored twice for his country against Mexico just days earlier.

The summer signing from Feyenoord also scored in Leeds’ previous two Premier League games, meaning Leeds fans were excited to see him in action.

Sadly, this will go down as one of the more forgettable games in Sinisterra’s career.

After picking up a harsh booking in the first half, Sinisterra then blocked an Aston Villa free kick early into the second period and was given his marching orders.

Sinisterra has been slammed since that red card with many wondering just what on earth he was thinking.

Leeds teammate Patrick Bamford has now told the club’s official website that he did agree with the second yellow card as it was simply naive from Sinisterra.

Bamford did though feel that the first yellow card was unfair, as leniency there would have prevented a red card down the line.

Bamford also admitted that it’s ‘weird’ to see Sinisterra so downbeat in the dressing room after his red card, because he’s usually so naturally happy.

Bamford backed his teammate to come back strong when his suspension is over, and Leeds will hope to see him happy again very soon.

“It’s one of them isn’t it, a little bit naive,” said Bamford. “I think that it’s a yellow card, we can’t really argue with it and Luis knows that it’s tempting to try and block it when they take a quick free kick but you’re not allowed. But I think the first yellow was probably not a yellow card, which is the thing. It’s frustrating, I think Luis is partly to blame for the second one and the first one is somebody else’s fault.”

“He’s a happy guy generally, so it’s kind of weird to see him a little bit straight-faced and kind of head between his knees a little bit, but he’ll be fine and he’ll be back and playing well for us soon,” he added.
