Tyler Denton impressed as Port Vale drew with Yeovil Town in League Two – hopefully Leeds United were watching.
The sacking of Michael Brown didn’t exactly propel Port Vale to winning ways. The Valiants drew 1-1 at Yeovil Town on Saturday in a result that keeps them joint bottom of the table on just five points from a possible 27 so far.
Though if one Port Vale player can be pleased with his outing at Huish Park, it’s Leeds United loanee Tyler Denton. The 22-year-old left-back will have hoped for more regular game time when he left Elland Road on loan in the summer but had made only four league appearances under Brown and was an unused sub on more than one occasion.
However, the 40-year-old’s departure after a horror run seems to have wiped the slate clean. With Chris Morgan taking caretaker charge until a new manager is found, Denton was handed a start against Yeovil – in an unfamiliar left-wing-back role.
And he marked it with an assist too, his pinpoint delivery powered home by targetman Tom Pope at the far post to give Vale the lead just after the half hour mark.
Though Denton was subbed off on 60 minutes, it was a much improved display from the player and the team as a whole. And this is the sort of afternoon Denton will have hoped for when he made the move down the leagues in the summer.
Charlie Taylor kick-started his Leeds United career with an excellent loan spell at Fleetwood Town in 2013/14. And Denton will now be hoping to follow in his footsteps in League Two.
