Leeds United’s on loan defender Lewie Coyle has issued an apology to supporters after he was sent off in Fleetwood Town’s FA Cup tie.
Coyle has been on loan at the League One side all season and has been impressive, earning consecutive man of the match awards.
He was dismissed late in Fleetwood’s 2-1 win at Chorley, with the team 1-0 down before they fought back to progress to the second round.
It was an uncharacteristic mistake from Coyle, and he wrote on Twitter to say sorry to supporters – and to his opponent.
Coyle’s candidness should be commended and his poor tackle will be one he should hope to learn from.
The 22-year-old right-back has been a key player for Fleetwood this season and his one error should not detract from his superb progress this season.
Fleetwood face non-league side Hereford United in the FA Cup second round next month.
