Cyle Larin is already a legend at MLS outfit Orlando City – and his remarkable statistics explain why Leeds United are reportedly interested.
As if Leeds United needed more reasons to be interested in Orlando City striker Cyle Larin, as reported by The Sun (10th September, page 58).
The 22-year-old Canadian has been one of the most feared forwards in the MLS since scoring 17 goals in his debut season back in 2015, breaking the record for the most goals scored by a ‘rookie’ in America’s top flight.
And Larin has just knocked another record to its knees. His 19th minute strike against DC United on Saturday was his 43rd goal for Orlando City – making him The Lions’ all-time record goalscorer.

Not bad for a player who has only played 85 games for the club across just two-and-a-bit seasons. Now, Larin’s record can be tempered by the fact that the Orlando City franchise was only set up in 2010 but a record of a goal every other game is still a remarkable achievement for a player who is still a long way from hitting his peak form.
According to the Orlando City official website, the previous holder of the record, Kevin Molino, scored his 42 goals across six seasons – meaning Larin has beaten his tally in double quick time.
And, just to pique Leeds fans’ interest further, Larin is the youngest player ever to score 40 goals in Major League Soccer and no player under the age of 25 has ever scored 50. Larin is seven goals away from writing his name into the record books again.
However, it seems the next challenge for Larin is to prove himself across the Atlantic.
