Leeds want Lewis O’Brien again and may be in a strong position after Huddersfield Town missed out on promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds avoided relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season, beating Brentford 2-1 to stay in the top flight.
That was euphoria for Leeds but elsewhere in West Yorkshire there is heartbreak.
Huddersfield faced Nottingham Forest in the Championship playoff final on Sunday afternoon, desperate to join Leeds in the top flight.
It wasn’t to be for the Terriers though as they fell to a 1-0 defeat with Levi Colwill’s inadvertent own goal giving Forest the win.
Huddersfield will want to keep this team together and go again next season but midfielder O’Brien could be on the move.
Leeds want Lewis O’Brien again
Leeds were heavily linked with O’Brien last summer but weren’t able to get a deal done.
The Sun added that Leeds wanted O’Brien in January but wouldn’t pay his £12million release clause.
It’s now stated by The Sun that Leeds will launch a new move to sign O’Brien this summer.
A deal would allegedly be worth £10million with Leeds potentially looking to land him for cheaper than his release clause after Huddersfield’s playoff woe.

Huddersfield were planning to give O’Brien a new deal – and no doubt remove that release clause – if they won promotion.
That didn’t happen though and Huddersfield now risk losing O’Brien to their rivals up the road in Leeds.
Hailed as ‘very special’ by Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan – a former Leeds coach himself – it’s clear that O’Brien is highly rated at Huddersfield.
The 23-year-old bagged three goals and three assists in 46 games this season and may still find his way to the Premier League even with Huddersfield missing out.
