Leeds United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, and Valerenga stopper Kristoffer Klaesson may be another step closer to signing.

The Whites have Illan Meslier between the sticks, but they allowed Kiko Casilla to return home to Spain with a move to Elche.

That means Marcelo Bielsa needs another option to challenge Casilla, and rather than go for an experienced replacement for veteran Casilla, they’re going for another youngster.

On Friday, The Athletic reported that Valerenga stopper Klaesson was flying to England to complete a medical and join Leeds this week.

The 20-year-old has been on the Leeds radar for a while now, and it looks like a breakthrough in talks has been reached – especially after Valerenga’s team sheet on Sunday.

Valerenga took on Lyn FK in the Norwegian Cup, with former Manchester City goalkeeper Kjetil Haug starting in goal.

Not only was Klaesson not in the starting lineup, but he wasn’t even on the bench – pointing towards his move to Leeds drawing ever closer.

The confirmation of his Leeds move surely can’t be far away now, with Klaesson set to join Junior Firpo at Elland Road.
