England star Kalvin Phillips has celebrated beating Wales and received a message from former Leeds United teammate Crysencio Summerville.

The Three Lions were fairly drab in the first half before quickfire goals from Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden set England on their way.

Rashford then made it 3-0, firing through Danny Ward having been played in by Phillips down the right flank.

England finish their World Cup group stage sitting top of Group B, teeing up a last 16 clash against Group A runners-up Senegal on Sunday.

Kalvin Phillips makes big impact for England

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips will be delighted with his part in the 3-0 win over Wales.

Phillips made a big move to City over the summer and will have hoped to thrive under Pep Guardiola ahead of the World Cup.

Instead, Phillips endured an injury nightmare with City and only made his return to action just before the World Cup.

That left some suggesting that Phillips didn’t really deserve his place in the squad over others who had been playing regularly.

Phillips didn’t feature in the first two games of England’s group stage campaign.

However, he picked up over half an hour of action against Wales and made his minutes count.

Phillips played an outstanding pass over the top of the Wales defence for Rashford, showing exactly what he can do for England.

It will still be difficult for Phillips to force his way into a starting role in this England midfield but he has made his case to Southgate.

Phillips took to Instagram after the win, admitting that he had lived his dream by playing for England at the World Cup.

Phillips added that this was an ‘unreal’ night for him personally and in terms of England’s passage through to the knockout stages.

Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville responded, simply saying ‘proud bro’ as he congratulated his former Whites teammate.

Even the likes of Leif Davis, Stuart McKinstry, Ryan Edmondson, Rafa Mujica, Sean McGurk, Jay-Roy Grot and Nohan Kenneh – all of whom were at Leeds with Phillips – passed on their messages to the England ace after an emotional night for him.
