Leeds United have joined the race for Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser amid links with a move to Southampton.

Ryan Fraser is now on the radar at Leeds United as he prepares to leave Newcastle United this summer.

That is according to The Sunday Mirror (08/07, p74), who report that Fraser is ‘set to leave’ Newcastle.

It’s stated that Leeds have now joined Southampton in the race to sign Fraser this summer.

The Whites have secured their new manager with Daniel Farke appointed as Sam Allardyce’s replacement.

Leeds will now look to ramp up their recruitment after appointing Farke and may be looking for new wide men.

Jack Harrison is attracting major interest in the Premier League whilst Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto will have suitors too.

Daniel James will be back at Leeds but they could be wise to have winger targets in mind – such as Fraser.

Leeds United target Ryan Fraser has been linked with Southampton swap

It’s pretty clear that Fraser needs to leave Newcastle this summer.

The Scot only started three Premier League games last season and made an additional five substitute appearances.

Fraser’s last Premier League appearance for Newcastle came way back in October and he simply must move on.

Leeds could give Fraser an escape route but he has also been linked with Southampton.

The Chronicle suggested in June that Fraser was likely to join Southampton as part of a swap deal involving Valentino Livramento.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Livramento has stalled though and that may open the door for Leeds to swoop in.

Fraser turns 30 in February and would be a departure from the usual Leeds transfer approach, but stockpiling young talents hasn’t really worked as well as hoped, so going for an experienced player like Fraser could aid a promotion push.
