Jesse Marsch is set to become the new Southampton boss – and that means a chance to coach former Leeds United target Romeo Lavia.

The Whites sacked Marsch last Monday and were hoping to have a replacement sorted pretty quickly.

Not only do Leeds not have a new manager yet, but Marsch is on the verge of a return to management before his successor has even been found.

The Athletic report that Marsch is set to become Southampton’s new manager, just a couple of days after the departure of Nathan Jones.

The American will be hoping for more success this time around having lasted less than a year at Leeds.

Marsch will now have a chance to beat Leeds at Elland Road later this month – and the move also means finally working with Romeo Lavia.

Marsch can finally coach Southampton ace Lavia after Leeds missed out

Leeds were looking for midfielders over the summer as they ultimately knew that Kalvin Phillips would be moving on.

The Athletic reported that Leeds registered an interest in signing youngster Lavia from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men were willing to sell Lavia to offset some of the fee for Phillips, opening the door for a part-exchange deal.

However, Southampton managed to win the race and brought Lavia to the South Coast.

Leeds ended up taking Darko Gyabi from City but it felt like Lavia was the preferred target at the time.

Fast forward a few months and Marsch will now be able to coach Lavia at Southampton and surely make him a key part of his midfield moving forward.

Lavia has so much talent – that’s why Leeds wanted him in the first place – and it’s now up to Marsch to get the best out of him.

Football can change so quickly and months after Marsch and Leeds were looking to sign Lavia, the American has his chance with the midfielder after all.
