Jesse Marsch has hailed Illan Meslier after his performance for Leeds United in their win away at Liverpool on Saturday night.

The Whites were heading to Anfield off the back of four straight defeats and March was under real pressure.

Leeds showed belief all night long though and profited early on as Joe Gomez played a terrible pass straight to Rodrigo for a tap-in.

Mohamed Salah pulled Liverpool level but Leeds weren’t going to be denied.

Crysencio Summerville fired a late winner for Leeds, sparking wild scenes in the away end as Marsch eased the pressure on his job.

Leeds of course had to withstand heavy pressure at times but Meslier stood strong.

Meslier denied Darwin Nunez as the Uruguayan was played in on goal.

The Frenchman kept Nunez at bay again, tipping a long range curler over the bar before then saving a Roberto Firmino header.

That’s just three of the nine saves Meslier ended up recording at Anfield – more than Meslier had saved in his previous four games combined!

Anfield can be a daunting venue for any young player but Meslier stood strong and gave his team a chance to win.

That’s why the 22-year-old is so highly-rated – and is ultimately receiving admiring glances from elsewhere.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has reported that Tottenham Hotspur would like to sign Meslier as a successor to his fellow Frenchman Hugo Lloris.

Displays like Saturday will surely increase the interest in Meslier and leave Leeds to hope that he will stay put.

Meslier has now been hailed by boss Marsch having made save after save against Liverpool.

Meslier told BBC Sport (22:27) that he felt Meslier was ‘really good’ against Liverpool and felt the youngster was ‘stable’ and ‘strong’ when Leeds needed him to step up.

“Illan [Meslier] was really good. He looked stable, he looked strong. We needed big performances from all 11 guys in all moments,” said Marsch.
