Leeds United were upset after defender Pontus Jansson received a ban.

Leeds United stated their disappointment at learning defender Pontus Jansson has been banned for one match for his comments criticising a referee.

The EFL took the rare step to suspend Jansson for tonight’s match with Ipswich Town after Jansson criticised the officiating as Leeds drew with Brentford earlier this month.

Fortunately for Leeds, Jansson was likely to miss this evening’s game anyway due to the birth of his child.

Leeds were not happy though, and pledged a potential change of approach to their post-game interview procedure.

A club statement read: “As a result of the ban Leeds United will take the following days to review our post match interview procedures.”

Here are five options available to Leeds:

– Refuse to make any players available for interview

– Make only the club captain available for interview

– Insist interviews do not take place immediately post-game, and only 30 minutes after the final whistle

– The petty approach: Make only foreign speaking players available

– Only conduct interviews if Leeds win

Leeds may of course just be paying lip service to supporters and decide to keep things as they are.

Yet with seven games upcoming on Sky Sports before the end of the year, the club will not want their players to be put in the same position as Jansson was again, when his emotion got the best of him.

Taking some sort of temporary measure could be a smart move, as next time a suspension could be more costly.
